Zhangjiajie was first brought to national attention in the 1980s by the famous Chinese painter Wu Guanzhong. While traveling about looking for subjects for his artistic creation, Mr. Wu was overwhelmed by the natural beauty of Zhangjiajie. Thanks to the admiration of this celebrated artist, this “mountain-veiled precious pearl”achieved fame and tourist popularity almost overnight.
