Before visiting Bhutan, I had traveled extensively around Kashmir to the west of the Himalayas and throughout much of Nepal. In other words, I had visited most of area along the southern edge of the Himalayan range except for this small country of 45,000 square kilometers sandwiched in between China and India.

I wanted to see Bhutan, but to enter the county is not easy for any tourist from any foreign country.

Tashigang Dzong
Punakha Dzong is a palace complex in the city. dating to 1637 it was severely damaged by an earthquake in 1897. it suffered further damage in 1960 and 1994 when glacial lakes flooded the area. The Bhutanese people have painstakingly restored the palace to its former glory.
