Samantabhadra
was the founder of the Mahasanti practise. As the practise evolved, it divided into two sects: the Nyingthig
Sect based on oral tradition descending from Dri-med’od-zer; and the Longsar
Sect based on oral tradition descending from Longsar Nyingpo Rinpoche. The
difference between two sects is that the Longsar Sect pays attention to
practitioners with a lower basis, while the Nyingthig Sect pays more attention
to practitioners with a higher basis. Nevertheless, the foundations of these
two sects are consistent.
