Trip to the hunting tribe of Aoluguya
--A reporter’s diary

Starting from August 10 this year, the Ewenki people living at Aoluguya, a small hunting site nestled in the ranges of the Greater Hinggan Mountains of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, left their home and settled in the western suburbs of Genhe, some 260 kilometers away.

There used to be four breeding spots of reindeer in the mountains. By the end of September, huntsmen from three have moved to their new settlement except for one headed by Maria Suo, who missed the best time of moving and remained in the deep forests halfway up in the mountain.

The winter is coming, how is Maria Suo, the chief of the tribe? What are those hunters doing? How do they survive the long winter season in the mountains? To find out the truth I set off for the last hunting site in late October.

White reindeer is considered Òholy reindeerÓ by Ewenki huntsmen.
Maria Suo has lived in “Cuoluozi” for the whole of her life. She is reluctant to leave her old home in the deep of Greater Hinggan Mountains.
