It is said the hands of a woman constitute her second face and expressions; and they have something that cannot be described with language. So hand ornaments are another language expressing a belief, wealth and more probably, the pursuit of beauty.

Some ethnic minorities in southwest China believe that the more silver ornaments you wear, the richer and more able you are. An elderly grandmother may tell a young man that if a girl wears many ornaments on her hands, she must both love beauty and be good at financial affairs. As a result, women’s exquisite hand ornaments are hard evidence of her beauty and ability. This is one explanation why the hand ornaments we see today are so exquisite and diversified.
